Box Score HONOLULU — There was no way the Academy of Art University men's basketball team was going to end its 2014-15 season Saturday quietly.
Â
The Urban Knights fought back from a 19-point second half deficit and had five players score in double figures in the season finale before finally succumbing to Chaminade 90-78 at McCabe Gym.
Â
Trailing 58-39 three minutes into the second half, the Urban Knights (7-19, 5-15 Pacific West Conference) made a game of it again with a 23-7 run to whittle the deficit down to three points at 65-62 with 7:04 left in the game. ART U shot 55.6 percent (10-for-18) from the field during the run but also missed two free throws and turned the ball over three times in the same time frame, allowing Chaminade (12-14, 9-11 PacWest) to keep the edge.
Â
It was Chaminade's 3-point shooting that would win the night. The Silverswords made 15 treys in the game and shot 44.1 percent from downtown. Chaminade's first seven shots of the game were from behind the 3-point arc. It made four of those first seven and five 3-pointers in the game's first five minutes to jump out to an 18-10 lead. Two more 3-pointers pushed the Silverswords' lead to 15 two minutes later, and Kuany Kuany's 3-ball at the 6:44 mark of the period gave Chaminade its biggest lead at 19 points.
Â
The Knights would get within two points on two different occasions, but failed to complete the comeback as Chaminade went a near-perfect 13-for-14 from the free-throw line in the final 4:09 while ART U went 3-for-10 from the field to close the game.
