Moore Sets Marks in Defeat at BYU-Hawaii

Box Score

LAIE, Hawaii — Senior guard Alexis Moore set a new Academy of Art University men's basketball career steals record Thursday and climbed another rung on the ART U career scoring list with a double-double, but it was BYU-Hawaii who came away with a big 91-57 Pacific West Conference win at the Cannon Activities Center.

Moore snuck across midcourt and intercepted a pass on the sideline in the second half, nearly falling onto the scorer's table before tossing the ball back inbounds to tally his second steal of the game and 90th of his two-year ART U career, setting a new career record. He would total four takeaways in the game, tied for his second most in a game this season.

Academy of Art (7-18, 5-14 PacWest) collected 13 steals in the game, its second highest total this season, but BYU-Hawaii (21-5, 15-5 PacWest) held them to 19.4 percent shooting in the first half and hit nine 3-pointers in the game to win going away. BYUH started the game on a 27-7 run

Moore led Academy of Art in scoring with 14 points, giving him 839 for his career. That pushed him past William Overton Jr. for second place on the ART U career scoring list. Overton Jr. scored 827 points from 2010-12. Moore also added to his second-most career rebounds total with 11 boards Thursday.

But he was ART U's only double-figure scorer. BYU-Hawaii had four players score in double digits, led by Pablo Coro's game-high 22 points. BYUH outrebounded ART U 58-38 as 13 different BYUH players grabbed at least one board and 12 scored at least one point.

The Seasiders started the game on a 31-9 run and never looked back. They never trailed in the game and led by as many as 30 in the first half, 41 in the second. BYUH's bench outscored the Academy of Art reserves 46-15.

ART U made a late push with a 12-0 run in the final five minutes of the game, cutting its deficit from 38 points to 26. Four different Urban Knights contributed to the run. Freshman guard Uchenna Okeneme led with five points in the 93-second stretch. Moore had four points in the run.

Academy of Art next closes out its season Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Chaminade.
