Los Angeles, CA —
A semifinals appearance and two quarterfinals showings were the highlights of the Academy of Art University women's tennis team's performance at the 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships Thursday through Saturday at Cal State L.A.

Third-seeded senior Nina Gajdosikova won two singles matches after a first-round bye to make it into the quarterfinals before losing to sixth-seeded Natalie Johnson of Azusa Pacific 6-0, 6-2. Gajdosikova also paired with fellow senior Jenny Johansson to make it all the way to the semifinals of the doubles competition. They went through two duos from fellow PacWest member Holy Names before succumbing to the No. 3-seeded pair of Scott and Mosser from UC San Diego.

"I am very pleased with the overall performance of the team," said ART U head coach Nicole Briceño-Garzón. "The girls competed hard and fought until the end, which is something we talked about the whole week.  We will now take the positives from this tournament and use that momentum to keep working hard to keep preparing us for the spring."

Johansson would also go on to win her singles consolation bracket, not dropping another match after falling in the first round. Sophomore Annika Schneider and junior Michelle Dandik Zaale played into the second round of the doubles competition before falling to Azusa Pacific's Ingwaldson and Johnson 8-5.

The Urban Knights next compete at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational on Oct. 11-12.
