Final Box Score
Vallejo, CA -- The Academy of Art University men's golf team has been steadily improving under new head coach
Andy Moren, and embodied that season-long trend in a span of three rounds of golf, moving from ninth place after the first round to eighth after the second, and finally finishing the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout in seventh place overall.
Dat Do had the lowest round of the day with a 75 to become the highest finishing Urban Knight in the standings, tying for 14th place overall.
"I am happy to see a steady progression with the guys," said Moren. "It's a result of their hard work each week. With continued dedication I expect them to continue to improve and be successful."
The Urban Knights were just outside the top five teams, only three strokes behind Cal State Dominguez Hills in the fifth spot in what proved to be a highly competitive tournament down to the final round. ART U finished the tournament with a three-round total of 926, just behind Saint Martin's (924) and CSUDH (923). Dixie State (902) took the title, followed only two strokes behind by Dominican (904) and Sonoma State (907), with host Cal State East Bay (913) dropping to fourth overall.
Do's 75 was his lowest of the tournament, while Alberto "Dago" Esponda finished with a round of 76 to end up tying with teammate
Cody Moore in the final standings in 21st place.
Eugene Wang fell short of his opening rounds where he shot back-to-back rounds of 76, but still had a strong showing, as did
Cole Yamane, who had his best round in the second as well.
ART U will return to the course next Monday on another Bay Area golf venue, traveling to Livermore, CA for the NDNU Invitational at Poppy Ridge Golf Course.Â
