San Francisco, CA -- Despite rescheduling once and then fighting through intermittent rain throughout the day, the #13 Academy of Art University women's tennis team still emerged from it all a little bit damp but still victorious over Bay Bridge rival Holy Names University. The Urban Knights took their sixth straight to start the year and did it convincingly with a 9-0 win.

"The girls reacted well to the changes today," said head coach Beth Daub. "We started with singles after the rain delay and they came out strong. Every player stayed focus on the task at hand throughout singles and it showed. All across the board each player did their job and supported each other."

The two teams trotted out their singles players first, with the Urban Knights winning all six matches in straight sets. Nina Gajdosikova defeated Jessica Ho 6-1, 6-1, in first singles, and Lucia Zavarcikova only dropped one game in the second slot, defeating Taylor Barajas 6-0, 6-1. Michelle Dandik Zaale didn't drop a game, sweeping her way to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Prisilla Cobian in the third spot. Annika Schneider won 6-2, 6-2 in fourth singles, while Daniela Amelunge Antelo (6-1, 6-1) and Jenny Johansson (6-0, 6-0) also cruised to victory.

With the Knights up 6-0 heading into doubles play, they didn't let up, as Gajdosikova & Amelunge Antelo took down Ho & Barajas 8-2. Zavarcikova & Johansson dismantled Cobian & Lexi Bevins 8-0 in second doubles, and Dandik Zaale teamed up with Kinga Kurczbuch to defeat Jasmine Martinez and Dahlia Martinez in a closely contested 8-6 match.

The Knights built upon the resume that bumped them up to #13 in the country, improving to a perfect 6-0 on the season, their first with Beth Daub as the head coach. They'll face a tough challenge this upcoming week, however, playing three matches in three days against Azusa Pacific, Point Loma, and UC San Diego.

"I believe that these girls can continue on this journey, it's just going to take some hard work and focus," Coach Daub said. "If they keep challenging themselves in practice and don't sit back and watch, then we are hoping to come back from the road trip with some victories. The team morale is great and the girls are always supporting one another which makes a huge difference during the big points. This group of Knights has come a long way and the positive outcomes are an indication of their hard work and dedication."
