Moore Leads Knights Men in Final Round

Final Box Score

San Bernardino, CA --
The Academy of Art University men's golf team finished the Coyote Classic hosted by Cal State San Bernardino with the very definition of mixed results, as out of their five golfers, two improved, two slid back a little, and one stood pat on his second round score. The Urban Knights, who began the day in a three-way tie for 13th place in a crowded field of 17, finished in sole possession of 14th place overall. Cody Moore was the top finisher for ART U, shooting a 73 (+3) in the final round to tie for 26th place.

The Knights dropped one spot in the team rankings, as they added seven strokes to their overall score. They were, however, able to place in front of PacWest opponents Holy Names, California Baptist, and Notre Dame de Namur. Chico State took the top spot with a score of 855, followed by Cal State Monterey Bay (862), Dixie State University (876), and Cal State Stanislaus (879). UC San Diego (884) narrowly beat out University of Redlands (885) to round out the top five.

On the individual side, Moore sandwiched another very good round around his slightly worse second round to finish at 222 overall, tied for 26th. Alberto "Dago" Esponda shaved a stroke off his second round score to finish at 226 (t-39), while Dat Do (227, t-43) and Eugene Wang (233, t-67) both dropped a few strokes in the finale. Tommaso Vielmo (245, t-88) duplicated his second round of 81 in the third, both of which were better than his opening round score of 83. Chico State's Lee Gearhart took the overall title, followed by Bobby Holden (UR) and Connor Van Gilder (DSU). Alistair Docherty (CSUC) and Michael Belle (Simon Fraser) tied for fourth place.

ART U will be back in action next week at the Pioneer Shootout, hosted by Cal State East Bay at the Hiddenbrooke Golf Course in Vallejo, CA.
