TIPPING OFF
After splitting their games at the Las Vegas Challenge and finishing the year with a loss in Riverside, the Urban Knights start off 2014 on a road trip to the Hawaiian Islands for three games. The Urban Knights have a chance to come back to the mainland with a better record than this time last season if they can come away with a win over the next week.

SEA WARRIORS GOING THE LONG WAY
Hawaii Pacific has already started the new year already with a win on January 1st, starting off 2014 with an 82-74 victory over University of British Columbia. Junior Justin Long continues to lead the way for HPU, scoring 35 points in the win. Long is second in the PacWest in scoring as of this week, scoring 18.6 points per game, and has led the Sea Warriors in scoring in five of their nine games so far while also shooting over 90 percent from the free-throw line. Malte Ziegenhagen is second on the team, coming in right behind Long with 16.1 points per on test, while Farbod Farman is pulling down 7.1 rebounds per game for HPU.

MOORE CONTINUES TO RISE AND FIRE
Junior transfer Alexis Moore has come out shooting for the Urban Knights this season, and in the 11 games so far this season has already broken into the top ten in terms of career three-pointers made and is now also in the top ten for three-pointers made in a season, tying for seventh place with assistant coach Phillip Samuel and Ivan "B.J." Prema, Jr. with 29 makes from beyond the arc. Moore made a career-high five threes in the Knights' win over Cal State Dominguez Hills which fueled another career-high with 22 points, pushing his season average to 16.4 points per contest.

BYU-HAWAII FUELED BY HIGH OCTANE OFFENSE
The Seasiders have the second-highest scoring average in the PacWest with 83.9 points per game,  and have topped the 100-point plateau twice this season. After opening the season with two wins over UH Hilo, BYU-Hawaii dropped two, with one loss to Hawaii Pacific and another to Lake Superior State before righting the ship against Northwood in a closely-fought 89-86 win. The Seasiders are going with a balanced attack, with their highest scorer at 12.7 points per game but with five players averaging over nine points per contest. That leader, DeAndre Medlock, is also leading the pack in rebounds with 6.7 per game.

KNIGHTS CLEANING OFFENSIVE GLASS
The Urban Knights have improved their rebounding both in team average and the rebounding differential since last season, and are currently the fourth-best squad in the conference on the offensive side so far this year. ART U is averaging 12.9 offensive boards per game against 10.36 last season, led by Rodrigo Maza, who's averaging 2.0 per game. In total rebounds, Alexis Moore and Alex Carmon are leading the way with 6.8 per game, with Maza right behind at 5.4 per game as well.

FRESHMEN LEADING THE WAY FOR SWORDS
Chaminade sits at .500 for the season, but are 2-0 in the PacWest for the most part thanks to strong play from their freshman class, as Kuany Kuany earned a pair of PacWest Freshman of the Week honors sandwiched around Kiran Shastri winning the same award in the week in between. Kuany averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds in the week of December 2-8 and poured in 12.5 points while pulling down 11.5 rebounds per contest from December 16-25. Shastri, a Bay Area native, scored a team-high 25 points against Division I University of Hawaii to earn the award for December 9-16. Shastri (12.0) and Kuany (8.8) are second and third, respectively, in total scoring for the Silverswords, while Lee Bailey (15.6) leads in overall scoring and Christopher Varidel has only played in four games but is averaging 21.8 points per game over that span.

IN TRANSITION
After the trip to Hawaii, the Urban Knights are back on the mainland but still away, traveling to Oakland for their first matchup against Holy Names on December 14th. They'll start a three-game homestand against the island delegation starting on Monday, January 20th.Â
