Urban Knights Hit Another Bump In Azusa

In their second tough match in two days, the Academy of Art women's tennis team ran into another speed bump in Azusa, falling to the 24th-ranked Cougars in a match abbreviated in agreement by both teams. The Cougars were playing a doubleheader, and with the Urban Knights scheduled for a twinbill of their own tomorrow, the coaches ended the match once the clinching point was made, with ART U falling 5-1.

The Cougars swept doubles play, with the #7 doubles pairing in the West Region in Danae Ingwaldson & Emily Harris taking down Amal Ben El Hadj & Michelle Dandik Zaale 8-4. Nina Gajdosikova & Jenny Johansson fell in second singles 8-3 for ART U, while Kinga Kurczbuch & Lucia Zavarcikova dropped the third doubles match by a score of 8-4 to Stephanie Quan & Samantha Kaneta, and the Knights were down 3-0.

Heading to singles play, the Knights won the first match to finish on the day, as Dandik Zaale took down Ingwaldson in second singles 6-0, 6-4. Emily Harris, ranked tenth in the region in singles play, defeated Gajdosikova next in first singles 6-1, 6-4, followed by Kim Koetterheinrich defeating Tamara Kenia 6-3, 6-4 in the sixth spot to clinch the win. The Knights were in position to pick up a couple more points, as Ben El Hadj was in control in third singles. Jenny Johansson was also up in the second set in fourth singles, while Zavarcikova was locked in a battle with Bethany Duval in fifth singles.

The Urban Knights will travel down I-5 a few more miles for their doubleheader tomorrow, taking on #19 UC San Diego at 9:00 AM before facing PacWest foe Point Loma Nazarene University at 2:00 PM to conclude their road trip.
