Waipahu, HI -- Only one day after squaring off against BYU Hawaii in a regular season match, the Academy of Art University women's tennis team faced the tall task of defeating one of the top teams in the country in order to move on from the opening round of the PacWest Conference Championships. The Urban Knights, despite a valiant effort, fell to the Seasiders in the opening round 5-0.

Lucia Zavarcikova didn't fare any better, dropping their sets by respective scores of 8-2 and 8-5, and the Knights headed to singles play down 3-0.
In first singles, Annie Hwang, the top-ranked player in all of Division II, defeated Gajdosikova 6-0, 6-0. Amelunge Antelo fell in the fifth spot 6-4, 6-2 to Jade Griffin, which gave the Seasiders the five points needed to clinch. The Knights showed flashes in some of the rounds that went unfinished, as Dandik Zaale won the first set of second singles 6-3 and Zavarcikova took the first set from Marisa Perreira 6-3 in sixth singles.
The Urban Knights will play PLNU tomorrow at 5:30 PM Pacific Time in the consolation bracket.
