Match 1 Box | Match 2 Box

St. George, UT --
The Academy of Art University women's tennis team went into Friday with a total of 18 matches on the docket for the day. They ended the evening with 18 victories, sweeping duels with Colorado Mesa in the morning and host Dixie State in the afternoon by duplicate scores of 9-0 at the Dixie State College Invitational. The Urban Knights improved to 10-1 on the year, and will try for their fifth straight victory tomorrow against Division I Weber State.

In the morning match, the Urban Knights dominated from the get-go, winning all three doubles matches against the Mavericks. Jenny Johansson & Lucia Zavarcikova won 8-4 in first doubles, followed by Daniela Amelunge Antelo & Nina Gajdosikova in second doubles and Amal Ben El Hadj & Michelle Dandik Zaale in the third slot, who both won by scores of 8-3.

The Knights didn't allow any of CMU's players to get more than two points to their name in singles play, winning all six in straight sets and getting ART U off to a great start in the tournament. In order, Gajdosikova (6-1, 6-0), Dandik Zaale (6-1, 6-0), and Ben El Hadj (6-0, 6-1) notched the first three victories, while Zavarcikova (6-1, 6-1), Amelunge Antelo (6-2, 6-2), and Johansson (6-1, 6-0) completed the job for the Urban Knights.

It was more of the same in the second match of the day for the Knights, this time facing PacWest opponent and tournament host Dixie State, except both teams faced another opponent in the weather. After battling the elements in doubles play, ART U and the Red Storm eventually moved inside to finish their match, with the Knights completing their second sweep of the day.

The Urban Knights dominated doubles play again, mixing up the teams a little bit but getting the same results. Ben El Hadj & Zavarcikova took the first doubles with an 8-0 victory, followed by Amelunge Antelo & Gajdosikova in second and Dandik Zaale & Johannson in third doubles, who both won by scores of 8-1.

In singles play, Academy of Art didn't let up, with only Kinga Kurczbuch in fifth singles going to a third set. Gajdosikova (6-1, 6-1), Dandik Zaale (6-2, 6-0), and Amelunge Antelo (6-2, 6-0) took victories in the first three singles spots. Johannson improved to 9-0 on the season and an impressive 27-6 in her career in singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 victory in fourth singles, while the aforementioned Kurczbuch went the distance but emerged victorious with a 6-7, 6-2, 10-6 win. Tamara Kenia took down Anna Cronquist without allowing a game (6-0, 6-0) in the sixth slot to complete the sweep of the day for ART U.

The Knights will compete on Saturday against Division I Weber State to conclude play at the Dixie State College Invitational.
