San Rafael, CA -- Last night Academy of Art University men's basketball coach
Julius Barnes was proud of his teams offense of output but concerned with the amount of points that they gave up to Cal State East Bay. Tonight those worries turn into reality as the Knights rode a career game by senior
Aaron Aikman to again put up big numbers offensively, Â but lost a late lead to Humboldt State falling 90-86 in the final game of the PacWest/CCAA Challenge.Â
The Urban Knights were down for a good part of the first half, not seeing their first lead until it was 16-15 with 12:03 left. They went to work for the rest of the half, lengthening the lead to 13 points on a three-pointer from
Alexis Moore to make it 39-26 with 5:34 left in the half. Moore would drain another triple with two seconds remaining to give ART U a 49-38 heading into the locker room.
They maintained that lead for a majority of the second half as well, pushing it to 13 once again on a pair of free throws from
Alex Carmon. But the Jacks kept chipping away, and with 3:32 left in the game a three-pointer from Will Taylor tied the game at 78-78. They took a lead that they wouldn't give up, and although Carmon, Anderson, and Moore all made free throws down the stretch, including a pair from Anderson that made it a two-point game with six seconds to play, they couldn't over take Humboldt State.
Aikman led the Knights in scoring with 26 points on a perfect night of 10-for-10 from the field.
Alex Carmon had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while
Alexis Moore shot 40 percent from beyond the arc and played all 40 minutes, scoring 21 points. The game was much more balanced on the boards than last night's game, as Humboldt rode five players in double figures to the win, led by 24 points from Brandon Pomrehn.
After the CCAA/PacWest challenge, the Urban Knights will have ten days off before hosting Cal State Monterey Bay on November 19. It will be the first home game of the year as the Knights tip off at Kezar Pavilion for a 7:00 PM contest.
