Urban Knights Fall By Three To Simon Fraser

Box Score
Burnaby, BC -- Over the past two years, the Academy of Art University men's basketball team has faced off against Simon Fraser of British Columbia twice, defeating them twice by a total of only four points. On Saturday night, it was another close game, as both teams battled down to the wire, with the SFU Clan coming out on top of a 78-75 win.

The Urban Knights jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game, which was part of a promising beginning. They stretched that lead to as much as 18 on a layup from Rodrigo Maza, whose bucket at the 10:32 mark made it a 24-6 ART U advantage. But Simon Fraser slowly whittled that lead down, eventually using a three-pointer from Sango Niang to take a 29-28 lead to cap off a 22-5 run. But the Knights would recover somewhat, as Herman Pratt found Alexis Moore for a three-pointer as time wound down in the first half, and both teams entered the locker room with the score 32-31 in favor of SFU.

Like the first half, the Urban Knights scored the first five points of the second half, but then Simon Fraser opened up a big lead, eventually leading 54-40 at the 12-minute media timeout. And again, just like their last game, the Urban Knights closed the gap late, battling until the final 1:13 to get it within single digits, when a layup from Aaron Anderson made it 73-64. It was a battle from the free-throw line from there, as a layup from Alex Carmon made it 77-71 with 13 seconds on the clock, and a free throw from Anderson made it 78-75. Moore actually got a steal and had a chance to tie for the KNights, but his missed triple with under a second to play spelled the end for the Knights.

Moore led all scorers with 20 points, making four of six from beyond the arc. Carmon added 15 points and five rebounds, while Anderson had a season-high 14 points, making eight of 12 from the line.
