Sonoma St. Final
Santa Rosa, CA -- The Academy of Art University men's golf team, led by junior Alberto "Dago" Esponda, finished in 13th place overall as the final round of the Sonoma Invitational ended Tuesday. The Urban Knights matched their first round score in the final round at the Santa Rosa Golf & Country Club.
Esponda led the Urban Knights with another strong performance at the invitational, shooting a team low of 74 on the day. He finished up tied for 30th overall, which was the highest individual finish for the Urban Knights.
Eugene Wang also had a good showing in the last round, shooting a 76 and finishing tied for 41st out of a total 74 golfers at the invitational. Northwest Nazarene's Nick Hardy finished first overall at the invitational, scoring 211 and shooting a third round low of 68. Matt Medeiros (Sonoma St.) and Dylan Jackson (Cal State Monterey Bay) tied for second place, while Alex Marry (SSU) took fourth. Eric Ash and Kyle Listar (SSU) and Jay Lim (UCSD) finished in a three-way tie for third place.
The Urban Knights finished with a score of 930 through the three rounds of play, eight strokes ahead of 14th place Notre Dame de Namur and just six strokes behind 12th place Dominican. CSU-Monterey Bay, led by golfers Dylan Jackson and Fredrick Jullum, had the lowest third round score of 282, yet still finished second overall, 11 strokes behind Sonoma State. UC San Diego took third place, while California University (PA) and Valdosta State rounded out the top five.
Academy of Art finishes out the fall schedule at Sonoma State, and will take the winter off until their first tournament at the Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay in early March.
