San Rafael, CA -- The Academy of Art University women's tennis team saw their first action of the 2012-13 year with a fall tournament hosted by Dominican. ART U was among four schools that participated, along with the host Penguins, Sonoma State, and Holy Names. The Knights fared well in both singles and doubles on both days, winning a total of 10 doubles matches out of a possible 11, and 20 of 22 singles wins.

The Urban Knights have a strong set of returners coming back, as Jenny Johansson, Amal Ben El Hadj, Daniela Amelunge Antelo, and Sarah Lemp got back to their winning ways this weekend. Kinga Kurczbuch is making a return from injury, and looked good on the court for ART U, taking part in three doubles wins and also winning all three of her singles matches. Newcomers Diana Juhasz, Nina Gajdosikova, and Michelle Dandik all held their own as well, as the new additions had a hand in 10 of the Knights 30 wins on the weekend.

"We are in Phase 1 of our 2012-2013 program," said second-year head coach Jerry Peach. "Our entire emphasis is to push our players on the court in competitive situations. The Dominican Tournament gave us valuable court time for every player.  We had a lot of success, due to the hard work the girls have put in on the practice court.  We have the raw material at this time. We have to refine strokes, along with giving our players the confidence to play this high level of college tennis."
