Bridge To Victory: Knights Win Another Bay Area Battle

Match Results

Oakland, CA --
The Urban Knights continued their Bay Area dominance on Sunday, traveling this time to the East Bay and defeating Mills College 9-0 in a clean sweep. In a stretch that has been shortened due to weather, the Knights have put together a string of matches that will put them in position to build positive momentum heading into the PacWest Championships next week.

The Knights have now won matches against teams from the North Bay (Dominican), the South Bay (Notre Dame de Namur), and the East Bay (Mills) as they improve to 11-8 on the season. They started out with a bang in doubles play, with the dynamic team of Kunkanda "Cartoon" Phukchampa and Jenny Johansson defeating Alice Hewitt and Sarah Knight 8-0. Daniela Amelunge Antelo and Paola Correa Fe duplicated that feat against Rachel Quimby and Daisy Wong 8-0, and Cecilia Hedin paired with Sarah Lemp to win the third doubles match by an 8-2 score.

That strong play continued into singles action where the Knights started off at #1 with Amal Ben El Hadj, who looked like she hadn't skipped a beat after missing time recently, winning her singles match 6-0, 6-0. Amelunge Antelo also won her match 6-0, 6-1 in the number two slot. Johansson extended her personal singles streak to 10 straight sets with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, winning nine of her last 10 matches and improving to 14-5 overall on the season.

The rest of the Knights all made personal strides, as the next three players for Academy of Art all improved to .500 on the season. Correa Fe took care of Sarah Knight after some early pressure, winning 6-3, 6-0 to give her a 5-5 record. Sarah Lemp handled Reyna Demos 6-0, 6-0 to pull even at 3-3 on the season. And Cecilia Hedin beat Lindsey Bozym 6-2, 6-1 to giver her a 2-2 mark in 2012.

ART U will ride a three-match winning streak into their final tuneup on Tuesday against BYU-Hawaii before the Pacific West Conference Championships start on April 19th in San Rafael, CA.
