Santa Clara, CA -- Decathlon Club
MATCH #15
ART U (8-5) vs. Dixie State College (5-8)
March 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM
San Francisco, CA -- San Francisco Tennis Club
OPENING SERVE
The Urban Knights are coming off an impressive streak of five wins in a row, including last week's sweep in the Battle of the Bay,
defeating Dominican 8-1 in San Francisco and then traveling to the South Bay to
emerge victorious over Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont by a score of 9-0.
BLAME IT ON THE RAIN
The Bay Area has been soaked with wet weather this past week, and the rain has been threatening their weekend matchups, with Dominican and San Jose State's match being disrupted by rain, and Dixie's match with Mills College also being rained out. The rain is scheduled to go through the weekend, so the Knights will keep an eye on the radar, as the San Francisco Tennis Club is outdoors.
SPARTANS GONE STREAKING
The Knights have been winning, but so has San Jose State, as the Spartans have rattled off five wins in a row. San Jose most recently defeated Southern Utah University but had their match against Dominican postponed due to the weather. The Spartans are led by Sabastian Chao, who is 6-3 in dual matches in the number one spot. Their best spot has been the third slot, in which the Spartans have two players splitting for a 7-2 record. Chao and Erica Medlin have combined to go 5-3 to lead their doubles play.
ALL THE SINGLE LADIES
Academy of Art has won 30 straight singles matches, dating back to their
March 2 matchup with Dixie State to kick off the Dixie State Tournament. That includes two 9-0 wins and three 8-1 victories in which the Knights have only dropped three games in that time, and ART U has dominated their opponents so far in March. The streak has led the Knights to a #8 ranking in the West Region.
DIXIE DEJA VU
The Red Storm saw the Knights to start the five-match winning streak, seeing ART U come into St. George and take over their own house, as the Knights won 9-0. Dating back to the inception of the ART U program, the Urban Knights have a record of 7-1 all-time against their conference foes. The Red Storm lost two since that match, both 8-1 losses to Colorado Mesa and Sonoma State. They will also try to fight the weather, having had to postpone matches against Mills College and Notre Dame de Namur, and with a match against Dominican scheduled for Saturday.
ON THE DOCKET
After facing SJSU and Dixie, the Urban Knights will play Cal State Stanislaus at home on March 25th. The Knights lost to the Warriors back on February 26th, but since then have not looked back on their winning streak. After that they'll take on Cal State Los Angeles on March 29.
