Softball Has Four Named to PacWest Honor Roll

San Francisco, CA The Academy of Art University's softball team has been back in full force over the past two weeks, putting up big numbers and gaining much deserved recognition. Throughout the past two weeks of play, the Urban Knights had four players named to the PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll. The announcements of the honor rolls came on Sunday night from the Pacific West Conference office. For the week of April 11th-17th, freshman Elyse Cordova and junior Sierrah Garcia received the honors, while freshman Katie Brooks and sophomore Nicole Smith were honored for the week of April 18th -24th.

Cordova (Tulare, CA), had a tremendous week for the Knights helping the team to a 3-3 finish. In six starts, Cordova hit .579 going 11-19. She also scored five runs, had one triple, two runs batted in, three sacrifice bunts, and stole two bases on the week. Elyse finished with a .600 on base mark, and a.684 slugging percentage.

Garcia (Los Banos, CA), helped her team on the mound by going 2-1 with four appearances in the week. In two complete games she registered a 1.64 earned run average while keeping her opponents to a .175 average in 21.1 innings. Sierrah recorded 20 strikeouts, and allowed just five earned runs in her time on the mound.

For the week of April 18th-24th the Knights went 4-0 with a sweep over non-conference members San Francisco State, and conference members Dominican University.

Brooks (Arroyo Grande, CA), did very well on the mound for ART U. She went 3-0 on the week seeing two starts and four appearances. During that time, Brooks recorded a 2.19 earned run average, and walked just three batters. Katie also threw one complete game, and posted eight strikeouts in 21.2 innings pitched.

Smith (Moscow, ID), played a big role offensively in the Knights' 4-0 week. Smith hit .714 going 5-7 with three walks, and one hit by pitch. She also contributed two runs scored, three runs batted in, and had one stolen base. Nicole finished with a .714 slugging rate, and a .818 on base percentage.
