San Francisco, CA – The Academy of Art University's tennis team has been getting some much deserved recognition from the Pacific west Conference. Starting on March 20th, the PacWest Conference office has released reports based on the start of the 2011 season results. The reports date back from the first week of February, and feature ART U athletes being named to the PacWest Honor Roll.
For the week of February 1st – 6th, the Urban Knights had three players named to the PacWest honor roll. Those three players were Amal Ben El Hadj, Diane Phan, and Kunkanda "Cartoon" Phukchampa.
Ben El Hadj was recognized for her win in doubles play. She competed with Phukchampa in the No. 1 doubles spot, against very challenging Sonoma State opponents. Phan also stood out in the match against Sonoma State. She registered a 6-0, 6-3 defeat of her singles opponent, and also won in doubles, 8-4 being teamed up with Laone Botshoma. Phukchampa helped lead the way to a victory over her Sonoma State opponents in her doubles match against the SeaWolves. She also led the match off competing in the No. 1 singles spot, and was barely edged out after losing in three sets.
Week One Complete Report
For the week of February 7th- 14th, the Knights again had three players named to the Honor Roll. Those three players were Laone "Lala" Botshoma, Amal Ben El Hadj, and Kunkanda "Cartoon" Phukchampa.
Botshoma helped lead her team to a 3-1 week. She went 4-0 in singles play through all four matches; with three of those coming from competing in the No. 3 spot, and one singles win coming in the No. 4 spot. Botshoma also saw success in doubles play when she went 3-1 competing in the No. 2 doubles spot.
Ben El Hadj also had a great week as she helped her team by going 4-0 in singles play. She saw three of those singles wins in the No. 4 spot, and one in the No.3 spot. Amal also saw success in doubles play on the week, going 2-2 competing in the No. 2 doubles spot.
Phukchampa played a huge role for her team on the week. She finished 4-0 in singles play, with three of those victories coming in the No. 1 singles spot. In the No. 2 spot she went 1-0. She concluded the week going 2-2 in the No. 1 spot in doubles competition for her team.
Week Two Complete Report
During the week of February 21st – 27th, ART U had four players named to the Honor Roll. Taking four of the 10 spots available for the Honor Roll, the Urban Knights made a name for themselves in the week where they went 1-0 defeating their Dominican Opponents 8-1. The four players that received the recognition were Amal Ben El Hadj, Diane Phan, Laone "Lala" Botshoma, and Kunkanda "Cartoon" Phukchampa.
Ben El Hadj earned a victory competing in the No.6 singles spot for the Knights. She also saw a victory in the No.2 doubles spot. Phan also did very well in ART U's Feb.26th match. She defeated her singles opponent in the No. 2 singles slot, and also picked up a win in the No. 2 doubles spot.
Botshoma helped lead her team to victory during the match defeating her singles challenger in the No. 3 spot. Lala also competed in the No.1 position in doubles play and came away with a win. Phukchampa rounded things out for her team during the match also coming away with a win in the No.1 doubles spot. She finished her week competing in the No.1 singles slot, and saw success as she easily defeated her Dominican opponent.
