Softball Earns PacWest Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors, and Has Four Named to Honor Roll

, CA After Academy of Art University softball's hot start to their season, the  team is gaining some much deserved recognition from the Pacific West Conference. The announcements came from the PWC office on Sunday, February 20th. For the first time, ART U softball has clenched both Pitcher of the Week, and Player of the Week honors. Junior Sierrah Garcia claimed the Pitcher of the Week award, and sophomore Jayme Stewart earned the Player of the Week award. Sophomore Andrea Hanchey, and freshman Lauren Stover were also recognized for their play as they earned spots in the Top 10 Honor Roll. All awards were given for the week of February 7th – 13th. The PacWest also honored sophomore Julie Martin, and junior Sierrah Garcia with Top 10 Honor Roll awards for the week of February 1st, which was also announced on Feb. 20.

Garcia (Los Banos, CA) had a great week finishing with a 2-1 record, and helped lead her team to a 3-2 finish. In two starts and four appearances, Garcia posted an impressive 1.45 earned run average, allowing just four earned runs and one walk on the week. She also threw one complete game, and recorded 15 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched. Sierrah rounded out her week by keeping her opponents to a .164 batting average.

Stewart (Shingle Springs, CA) had a tremendous offensive week for the Knights. She finished with a .500 batting average going 8-16 in five starts. Stewart recorded seven runs scored, nine runs batted in, and earned four walks. She also posted three doubles, three home runs, and stole two bases on the week. Jayme managed an impressive .600 on base percentage and a 1.250 slugging rate.

Hanchey (Galt, CA) also put up impressive numbers for her team. Hanchey led the Pacific West Conference in hitting for the week with a .625 batting average. In five starts, she went 6-10, with four runs scored, thee runs batted in, and posted one home run. Andrea finished the week with a .813 slugging percentage, and a .700 on base mark.

Stover (LasVegas, NV) came up big for her team while playing in front of her home crowd last week. The freshman batted .438 with two home runs, seven runs scored, and three runs batted in. She went 7-16 at the plate in five starts, earned four walks, and stole two bases. Lauren concluded the week with a .813 slugging rate, and a .550 on base percentage.

 

 
In the first week of the Urban Knights' season, the team went the distance with two wins, and one loss. For their efforts during the opening week, Julie Martin and Sierrah Garcia received PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll awards.

Martin (Torrance, CA) had an outstanding offensive week for the Urban Knights. In three starts, the sophomore batted a .571 going 4-7. She posted one run scored, one run batted in, earned two walks, and had one stolen base for her team. Julie finished the week with a .577 slugging percentage, and a .667 on base mark.

Garcia (Los Banos, CA) helped her team to a 3-2 week, and was clutch on the mound for ART U. She went 2-0 on the week while posting a 1.75 earned run average. The junior had three appearances, one start, and threw one complete game striking out 11 batters in 16 innings. Sierrah also managed to keep her opponents to a .154 average.
