Youth Helps ART U Through Tough Final Day of Dennis Rose Invitational

Final Results

Hilo, HI --
Tuesday's final round of play saw significant final round improvements from Academy of Art's fourth and fifth qualifiers, sophomore Thomas Krepp and freshman Cole Yamane, as the Urban Knights men's golf team finished 9th at the 2011 Dennis Rose Invitational. Though the team did not move up in placement after another time through the 7,074-yard Par 72 course at the Waikoloa Golf Beach Resort, those memorable performances still shone through in the concluding day of this fall season. Senior Stuart Favretto still finished with the best overall score for ART U, a 227 (76-72-79).

Leading the Academy of Art five, Favretto ended up tied for 28h while freshman Alberto "Dago" Esponda came in tied for 39th after carding a 231 (75-74-82). Qualifying third for ART U, junior Sean Etow turned in a 235 (77-75-83) to pick up his 47th place tie. Powering the back end of the Knights rotation, Krepp was over six strokes better than both of his first round scores on his third trip, finishing with a 240 (82-83-75) and taking 51st. In a 10-stroke improvement from his first round, Yamane posted a 245 (86-83-76) to earn 53rd overall.

ART U came through in 9th place for the team competition with a score of 926 (310-304-312). Hawaii-Hilo, the tournament host, posted another strong score on the final day to win outright with an 864 (285-292-287). UHH's Jamie Hall, who led after day one, finished as the overall winner in the tournament with a 209 (70-70-69).

With the completion of the Dennis Rose Invite, Academy of Art also concludes its fall season. The Urban Knights will resume tournament play in the spring.
