Honolulu, Hi --- The Urban Knight women's basketball team picked up a much needed win tonight against host Chaminade University. ART U, who never trailed in the contest, kept the Silverswords to just 18 points in the first half which is the fewest first half points allowed in program history. The 77-50 win was a total team effort as every Urban Knight scored in the contest. ART U is now 3-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play while Chaminade remains winless at 0-9 overall.
The Urban Knights, who were still feeling the tough loss to Hilo, came out tonight with something to prove.
Nicole DeRosier started the game with a three-pointer. A foul on the next play gave the Silverswords a chance to make 3-2 early in the game.
Madeline Martin hit a jumper which sparked a 4-10 run for the Urban Knights and set the tone for the rest of the game. Chaminade was held to 21% shooting in the half as ART U entered the locker room up by 16, 34-18.
The second half did not get any easier for the Silverswords as ART U continued to expand on their already sizable lead. Within the first four minutes of the second half ART U opened up their biggest lead yet, 21-43 off a
Lorraine Etchell free-throw. The Urban Knights got to the free-throw line 27 times in the second half and shot 43% from the field enroute to their 77-50 victory over Chaminade.
Kellene Castello led the Silverswords with 11 points. Kristen Canencia added eight points in the loss, while Rachel Rickard chipped in with seven points.
Jessica Nolan led all players tonight with a game high 14 points and nine rebounds. Both
Madeline Houston and
Madeline Martin finished the game with 11 points.
Nicole DeRosier was 2-5 from three-point territory and had nine points in the game.
The Urban Knights will rest tomorrow before returning back to action against BYU-Hawaii on Monday. Game time is set for 5:00pm Hawaiian Time.
