San Francisco, CA --- For the second time this season, the Academy of Art University women's tennis team won a doubleheader against Dominican University. The Knights came away with a pair of 5-0 victories at the San Francisco Tennis Club in a match that was rescheduled to Saturday, Apr. 10 due to weather concerns. Overall, AAU is now 8-12 while the Penguins fall to 3-11.

"This was a great warm-up for us going into the PacWest Conference tournament," Head Coach Dave Allen said. "We are happy to be going into the tournament healthy and ready."

In both matches, Academy of Art gained momentum for its strong doubles play. Kicking off number one doubles the first matchup, junior Laone "Lala" Botshoma teamed with sophomore Maria "Belen" Tenorio to defeat Anh Truong and Michele Freitas 8-4. In the second doubles position, sophomore Paola Correa Fe and sophomore Cecilia Hedin put away Caskey Cunningham and Marli Sangervasi 8-0. The final doubles match resulted in a default win for freshman Diane Phan and senior Anna Ritchie.

Through two singles pairings in the first match, AAU dropped just three games. Botshoma prevailed over Truong 6-0, 6-0 at number one and Correa Fe defeated Freitas 6-2, 6-1 in the second position.

The Knights switched up their doubles partners in the following match with Botshoma and Correa Fe securing an 8-2 victory over Truong and Freitas at number one. Hedin combined with Ritchie for a perfect 8-0 win versus Cunningham and Sangervasi in the second slot while the third doubles matchup went to Phan and Tenorio by default.

In singles action, Correa Fe played her first match of the season at number one singles and triumphed over Truong 6-2, 6-2. Botshoma also posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory in her number two match against Freitas.

The Urban Knights now have their eyes on the Hawaiian Airlines PacWest Women's Tennis Championships which are set to begin next week on Thursday, Apr. 15 in Glendale, AZ. Announcements regarding matchups will be forthcoming and a look at each of the teams participating will occur in the Media Day aired on Red Zone Media this Monday at 1:00 PM PST.
