Box Score #1
Box Score #2

San Mateo, CA –
The Academy of Art University concluded their home stand with a double header against the PacWest conference leaders Hawaii Pacific on Wednesday afternoon at San Mateo College. In the final day of the series between the two teams, the Sea Warriors were out in full force and came out attacking against the Urban Knights. In the first game, the Sea Warriors' offense exploded and they defeated the Urban Knights with a score of 13-2 in five innings. The second game was a different story, even though HPU jumped out to an early lead. The Knights rallied to put up six runs in the late innings, but could not overcome the damage done earlier by the Sea Warriors. The Knights ended up losing with a score of 10-7.

AAU acted as the visiting team even though they were hosting Hawaii Pacific. Because of this, the Urban Knights got things going in the top of the first inning in game one. Junior Ashley Lokey led the game off with a solo home run to left-center field. The Knights were able to score one more run when junior Alana Aweau doubled scoring sophomore Shampayne Clay from second. This gave the Knights a two run lead after the top of the first.

But the Sea Warriors were quick to answer back. They scored four runs of their own in the bottom of the first to take the lead from the Urban Knights. The Sea Warriors then added to lead by scoring five runs in the second, and then took control of the game by scoring four final runs in the third. The Urban Knights were again shut out by HPU's ace, and they were not able to muster up any more runs in the game. After a promising start, the Knights lost in the fifth inning due to the eight run rule.

Freshman Nicole Smith did well for AAU offensively going 2-3 in the game. Ashley Lokey also did well going 1-3 with a home run, and Alana Aweau went 1-2 with a double, and one run batted in. Senior Shampayne Clay stood out going 1-2 with a double, and one run scored, and freshman Andrea Hanchey went 1-3 in the game.

Sierrah Garcia was on the mound for the Urban Knights. She went four innings pitched giving up 10 hits, 13 runs (four which were earned), had three walks and two strikeouts.

Lead hitters for the Sea Warriors were M. Kim, who went 2-2 with three runs, and one RBI, N. Morrow who went 2-3 with a double, one run, and three RBI's, C. Tesoro who went 2-2 with two runs scored, and C. Sugihara who went 1-2 with three runs scored.

Receiving the win in the game was S. Musquiz. She went five innings pitched giving up six hits, two earned runs, and had two strikeouts.

The Urban Knights scored two runs on six hits, had three errors, and left four runners on base.

Hawaii Pacific jumped on the board first in game two, when they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Knights were able to score one run of their own in the top of the second when Shampayne Clay led off with a single, and later scored off an error by the Sea Warriors second baseman. This cut HPU's lead in half. But the Sea Warriors kept their offense alive and were able to score four more runs in the bottom of the second, and four runs in the bottom of the fifth. They scored all their runs early when they were able to capitalize on the Urban Knights' defensive errors and struggling pitching for the second game in a row. But things settled down for the Knights after the third inning and they were able to shut out the Sea Warriors for the remainder of the game. However, the Knights were already in a 10-2 deficit.

AAU started to turn things around in the top of the fourth when they scored two runs. They continued to fight back by rallying and stringing hits together, and as a result they were able to score three more runs in top of the sixth. They made their final run at the game in the seventh when they pushed one more run across. But that would not be enough to overcome the damage from the start of the game, and even though they out hit their opponents, they came up just short against HPU with a final score of 10-7.

Freshman Julie Martin had a great game at the plate for the Knights. She went 4-4 with one run, and two runs batted in. Aweau finished out her strong offensive series going 2-2 with a double, and two runs scored. Lokey did well going 1-3 with a home run (her second of the day) with one run, and two runs batted in, and Garcia went 1-4 with two runs scored, while Clay also went 1-4 with one run scored.

Freshman Kimberly Dauer started the game for the Knights. She went three innings pitched giving up 10 runs (four which were earned), had one walk, and one strikeout. Garcia came in to pitch in relief. She went three innings pitched giving up no hits, no runs, one walk, and had three strikeouts. Dauer receives the loss in the game.

For the Sea Warriors, C. Sugihara did well going 2-3 with three runs, and one RBI, C. Tesoro went 2-2 with two runs, and one RBI, and M. Kim went 2-3 with one run, and four RBI's. C. Senas also added to her team's success by going 2-4 with a triple, and three runs scored, and N. Morrow went 2-2 with three RBI's.

A. Valine received the win for HPU. She went seven innings pitched giving up 12 hits, seven runs (four earned), had four walks, and posted two strikeouts.

The Urban Knights scored seven runs off 12 hits, committed four errors, and left seven runners on base.

After both loses, the Academy of Art University's record falls to 18-16 overall, and 8-8 in the PacWest, while Hawaii Pacific University's record improves to 33-4 overall, and 20-2 in the PacWest. Next the Knights hit the road to face Grand Canyon University on Friday, April 2nd. They will play a two-day four game series against the Lopes before returning to the Bay. Game times are set for 12:00 and 2:00 PM on April 2nd at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ.
