Box Score #2

Waipahu, HI – The Academy of Art University softball team continued their Hawaiian road trip by again playing Chaminade University in a mid-day double header on Sunday. The day was identical to the previous at the Urban Knights took the first game this time with a score of 3-2. However, in the second game, the Knights' defense again fell apart and they ended up losing with a final score of 0-7. After splitting both double headers with the Silverswords, the Knights are now 2-2 in PacWest play.

AAU had a strong start to game one. They came out with a lot of energy and took control of the game very quickly. Acting as the home team (per conference rules), the Knights scored two runs, their first two batters of the game, in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. The Silverswords were able to cut the lead in half when they pushed a run across in the top of the second; but the Urban Knights quickly regained control with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Chaminade didn't let down easily as they made a run for the lead in the top of the seventh inning by scoring one more run; but a solid pitching performance from Sierrah Garcia prohibited them from going ahead. With both AAU's offense and defense working in the game, they were able to hold off the relentless Silverswords for the win.

Shampayne Clay led the Urban Knights offensively by going 3-2 with two runs batted in. Melissa Coe went 1-2 with one run scored, and a stolen base, and Sierrah Garcia went 1-3.

Receiving the win for AAU was Sierrah Garcia who pitched a seven inning complete game. She gave up one earned run, one walk, and had four strikeouts.

For the Silverswords, Mihara went 2-3 with one run, and Saniatan went 3-4 in the game. Recording the loss for her team was C. Walls who went six innings pitched giving up one earned run, one walk and posting four strikeouts.

The Knights scored three runs on four hits, and had one error in the game.

Game two started as a pitcher's duel. Kimberly Dauer was on the mound for the Academy of Art University and was doing a good job keeping Chaminade's offense quiet. Both teams were scoreless until once again errors plagued the Urban Knights. The Silverswords capitalized on the errors and were able to open things up with a big rally in the top of the fourth.

A costly error in the fourth allowed the Silverswords to break the tie by scoring two runs before the Knights could get an out. After struggling to settle down, AAU would give up five runs total in the fourth to give Chaminade a commanding 5-0 lead. The Silverswords added to their lead by scoring two more runs in the sixth. The Urban Knights had their chance to get things going when they had bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the sixth, but they failed to bring any runners in. They would end up losing with a final score of 0-7.

Ashley Lokey had a solid game for AAU as she went 2-3 with a double, and Sierrah Garcia was impressive going 2-2. Alana Aweau did well going 1-2, and both Julie Martin and Andrea Hanchey went 1-3 in the game.

Kimberly Dauer started in the circle for the Knights. She went three innings pitched giving up three earned runs, and had one strikeout. Sierrah Garcia came in to pitch in the fourth and threw four innings giving up two runs, and recorded two strikeouts. Dauer would get the loss in the game.
