St. George, UT – The Urban Knights continued their road trip by battling Division I members Southern Utah University on Saturday morning. The Academy of Art University started the match off with a win, but the Thunderbirds quickly took control and won four of the six singles matches. After all the singles and doubles matches were played, the Urban Knights came up short against SUU and lost with a score of 3-6.

Diane Phan again led things off for the Urban Knights. She has been solid for her team in nearly every match this season. Phan defeated her SUU counterpart 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. The only other Knight to come out victorious in the singles was Cecilia Hedin who easily overcame her Thunderbird opponent.

In the third and final doubles match, a powerful combination of AAU's Cecilia Hedin and Maria "Belen" Tenorio were able to upset their Division I opponents. They came out on top over Kristi Latteier and Sarah Alamshaw of Southern Utah University.

"I'm proud of their efforts up against some stiff competition," said Head Coach Dave Allen. "Our team has been playing well; we just need to step it up on game points. They've really been in a lot of these matches and I continue to be encouraged by their camaraderie and teamwork."

Directly following the Urban Knights' game against Southern Utah, was a recently added matchup between AAU and Mesa State. The game was scheduled for 3:00 PM and is taking place at Green Valley Tennis Club.  Please look for those results to be posted at the conclusion of the game.
