Urban Knights Fall to PacWest's Top Ranked Offense

Academy of Art University (8-17, 4-10 PacWest) finished the road portion of their season Saturday when they suffered a loss to Dixie State College of Utah (15-8, 11-3 PacWest), 84-67. Although four different Urban Knights finished with ten or more points, they were unable to shut down the PacWest's leading offense.

The first half was a hard fought battle that saw 12 lead changes and three ties. AAU received an offensive surge from Senior Sondra Stilwell who scored all of her 14 points in the first half to lead the Urban Knights. Academy of Art hit 42 percent of their shots including 5-of-11 from the 3 point line, to take a 37-36 lead at the end of the half.

The Urban Knights started the second half strong, leading more than five minutes into the half, but the Red Strom eventually took over. Dixie State sank 45 percent of their baskets and notched 48 second half points for the victory.

AAU, who has the best three point defense in the PacWest, held the Red Storm to 37 percent from the floor and blocked six of their shots, but they struggled offensively turning the ball over 28 times.  

Junior Jessica Nolan had an outstanding game for the Urban Knights finishing with 12 points on 6-of-8 shots. Nolan, the PacWest's leading rebounder, also pulled down a team high 11 rebounds and recorded four steals against the Red Storm.

Urban Knights leading scorer Stilwell, who is 5th in the PacWest in three point shooting percentage, was 4-of-8 from beyond the arc to bring her season average to 40 percent. The guard dished out five assists and grabbed two rebounds in 33 minutes on the floor.

AAU sophomore Lorraine Etchell and junior Ashleigh Frazier each recorded 10 points and combined for 10 rebounds.

For the Red Storm, Johnna Brown tallied a game high 22 points and 11 rebounds. Deanna Daniels added 16 points as she pulled down nine rebounds.

Today's game concluded the Urban Knights' road schedule as they will return home for their final two games. On March 2nd, AAU will host Chaminade University at UCSF in their Think Pink game. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
