Urban Knights Drop Close Match with NDNU

  The Urban Knights welcomed the Argos of Notre Dame de Namur to Kezar Pavilion tonight  for the Academy of Art University's first ever Homecoming night . Although the Urban Knights were on the losing end of a 64-61 battle, the record crowd enjoyed all 40 minutes of basketball. Jessica Nolan led the charge for the Urban Knights; she notched her fourth straight double-double, finishing with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Verity Peets was the team's leading scorer of the night. She added 19 points and five rebounds.  The loss drops AAU to 7-14 overall, and 3-7 in PacWest play. The Argos, however, improve to 8-4 in conference play and 12-11 overall.

The Urban Knights jumped out to an early 10-0 lead to start the game. AAU was able to keep the Argos scoreless for the first four minutes of the contest. However, NDNU continued to claw their way back into the game and tied the score at 19-19. AAU lost their lead for the first time at 13:00 minutes on a lay-up by Argo's leading scorer Katie Zasly. AAU would increase their score to as many as 10 points, but would ultimately head into the locker room up by one. The Urban Knights caused the Argos to turn the ball over 12 times and scored 12 points off those turnovers.

NDNU started the second half on fire. They managed to keep the Urban Knights scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the half and expanded their lead 10 points. It was a Verity Peets' free-throw and back-to-back lay-ups, which sparked a 9-2 run to get the Knights to within one point with 6 minutes left on the clock. The Urban Knights would regain the lead with five minutes left in the contest. However, turnovers down the stretch gave the Argos the game with a score of 64-61.

The Argo's Zastly sisters each scored 16 points and added four assists, while Laura added seven rebounds. Pilar Mullins had a game high 14 rebounds.

The Urban Knights were lead by Peets who notched 19 points and five rebounds, while Nolan was right behind her with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ashleigh Frazier led all players with six assists and also chipped in with eight points.

AAU returns to the court on Feb 18 when they play Dominican University for the second and final time of the season at the Conlan Recreation Center in San Rafael. Tip off is set for 5:30 PM with the men set to play directly after.
