The Academy of Art University picked up their 5
th win of the season and their first win in conference tonight at UCSF Bakar Fitness Gym in San Francisco, CA by defeating the visiting University of Hawaii – Hilo Vulcans, 76-57. The Urban Knights had four players register double digits in scoring with
Lorraine Etchell leading the pack with a game high 20 points.
Sondra Stilwell added 16 points five assists and three steals.
Ashleigh Frazier registered her first career double – double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. While
Jessica Nolan was on track to finish with a triple double, she finished with 14 points eight rebounds and seven assists.
The Urban Knights jumped out to an early lead finishing the first half up 39-27. Etchell had 12 of her game high 20 points in the first half, shooting 5-9 from the field. Nolan dished out a game high seven assists in the first half alone. The Urban Knights came out in the first half focused, they created 13 turnovers and scored 12 fastbreak points. The pesky defense of the Urban Knights caused the Vucans to shoot just 32% from the field. AAU, however, shot 52% from the floor and were 2-3 from the line. To go into the locker room up 12.
The second half proved to be all Urban Knights as they increased their led to as many as 22. Stilwell led the charge scoring nine of her 16 points in the second, and dished out three of her five assists. Although the Knights turned the ball over 15 times in the second they caused the Vulcans to turn the ball over nine times, while keeping Hilo scoreless from beyond the arc. The Urban Knights shot 50% for the game and out rebounded Hilo 46 – 28. Frazier led all players with 10 rebounds while Nolan added eight.
For Hilo Leesa Deniz and Hina Kimitete lead the way finishing with 10 and 11 points respectively, Deniz added one steal while Kimitete notched 2. Sheena Pio finished with a team high six rebounds including five offensive.
The Urban Knights return to the floor Thursday Jan 7, when they take on Hawaii Pacific University at Kezar Pavilion, tip off is set for 6pm the men will play following the conclusion of the women's game.
