WRAP UP
The Urban Knights wrap up their five game home stand with a contest between fellow Bay Area PacWest opponent Dominican University. After knocking off University of Hawaii - Hilo in their first home [and conference] game of the season the Urban Knights have since dropped their last three matches. Despite the lack of wins, the Urban Knights have kept themselves in every contest. In their last match against defending PacWest Champions Dixie State College, AAU saw themselves leading or within two points for 35 of the 40 minutes played.
Sophomore guard Lorraine Etchell (Healdsburg, CA) was named to the Pacific West Conference Top 10 weekly honor roll for the second straight time. The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Jan. 18, for games contested Jan. 11-17.
Etchell scored 20 points in AAU's loss to Dixie State College on Sat Jan. 16. Etchell tied for third in scoring for the week in the PacWest. Etchell tied her season high for the third time with 20 points, shooting 2-6 from behind the arc and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. On the season Etchell is second on the team in scoring, she is averaging 10 ppg and is shooting 44% from the field,

ALOHA HAWAII
Following their contest with DU the Urban Knights head to Hawaii where they will compete against all four Hawaii Schools. Academy of Art starts the first half of their trip with rematches against Hawaii Pacific University and University of Hawaii - Hilo. The Urban Knights then head back to the island of Oahu where they face BYU – Hawaii and Chaminade University before returning to San Francisco.
SCOUTING THE PENGUINS
The Penguins are 4-11 so far in the season, while both teams are 1-3 in conference – they each picked up a win over Hawaii-Hilo. The Penguins had lost six straight games before they picked up the win over the Vulcans, and have since dropped three of their last four games. Alisha Flaaten holds the top spot among scorers, she is averaging 15 ppg, has 36 assists and 35 steals. Kimi Nakamura has stepped up her game offensively as well, coming off the bench and averaging 9 points in conference play.
LAST GAME RECAP
The Academy of Art women dropped a heart breaker to the defending PacWest Champions, Grand Canyon University, tonight at Kezar Pavilion, 70-62. The Urban Knights controlled for a majority of the time, but Grand Canyon broke the game's eighth tie with 6:41 left in the second half and went on to win its sixth straight game, while AAU suffered it's third loss in a row. Jessica Nolan led the charge for the Urban Knights as she finished with her second double-double of the season, 19 points and 11 rebounds which is just one shy of her season high.
Lorraine Etchell contributed 12 points one steal and one block. The Urban Knights, as a team, out shot the Lopes in all categories; finishing with a shooting percentage of 46% over the Lopes 41%, AAU was 45% from behind the arc while GCU shot 31%, and the Urban Knights were 84.6% from the line and Grand Canyon finished at 84.2%.
