Game Notes (includes season/career-highs)

RED STORM AND ANTELOPES ON TAP FOR AAU:
With two PacWest games completed, Academy of Art University men's basketball must now contend with Dixie State and Grand Canyon as part of the Urban Knights' five-game homestand. AAU most recently faced Hawaii Pacific and despite the 80-69 loss, Academy of Art battled the Sea Warriors through the first half and even took the lead in the second period.

OPENING TIP:
UCSF-Bakar Fitness will be the site for Academy of Art's contest versus Dixie State on Jan. 16. The teams are scheduled to tip off at 7:30 PM directly following the women's game. Directions to the gym can be found on the athletics facilities page here. The Knights will then be back in Kezar Pavilion on Jan. 18 when they face off against Grand Canyon also at 7:30 PM. You can also check out twitter.com/AAUurbanknights for live score updates!

SCOUTING THE RED STORM:
Dixie State College began the season by winning five of its first six games and after a 83-66 victory over Notre Dame de Namur on Jan. 14, the Red Storm remain undefeated in PacWest play. DSC may have defeated Central Washington and Montana State-Billings of the GNAC in the pre-conference season, but the biggest highlight for Dixie State thus far has to be an 86-78 victory over BYU-Hawaii on Jan. 7. The Red Storm are led by forward Tom Whitehead, the current PacWest Player of the Week, who averages 15.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING THE ANTELOPES:
It has been a very up-and-down season for Grand Canyon University. The Antelopes started by losing five of their first six games which included a lone win against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Nov. 17. After defeating Cal Baptist a week later, GCU went 4-5 in the rest of its non-conference season capped by a thrilling 69-68 triumph over Seattle Pacific on Dec. 19. The Antelopes have not won a game since PacWest play began and recently lost to Dominican 68-59 on Jan. 14. Guard T.J. Benson has the highest scoring average on the team (9.9) and has made a team-high 42 3-pointers.

AAU HANGS TOUGH AGAINST TOP TEAM IN THE PACWEST:

In Academy of Art's second PacWest contest in program history on Jan. 7, the Urban Knights and Hawaii Pacific University battled to a 80-69 result with HPU on top. Two separate first-half runs and 50 percent shooting by AAU brought the teams to a 41-38 halftime score favoring Hawaii Pacific. The Knights carried that momentum into the second period when they took the lead in the first minute on a pair of free throws by junior guard Phillip Samuel. An 8-2 push by the Sea Warriors gave the advantage back to the visitors and despite a valiant effort by AAU to stay in it, the victory went to HPU. Samuel led the way with 17 points (8-of-10 from the free throw line) and junior forward Jonathan Burnett posted 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

LOOKING AHEAD:
Academy of Art will wrap up its homestand on Jan. 23 at Kezar Pavilion when the Knights face fellow Bay Area PacWest opponent Dominican University at 7:30 PM. Following that matchup, AAU will be on the road for its next four games.
