Women's Soccer Falls to Dixie State 0-7

Box Score

San Francisco
, CAThe Academy of Art University's women's soccer team challenged Dixie State during a Monday morning game at Kezar Stadium. Coming off a close match just two days earlier, the Urban Knights had little rest before facing a very good Red Storm team. Dixie State took an early lead just five minutes into the game, and never looked back. Both the Red Storm defense and offense proved to be too strong as the Urban Knights ended up losing with a final score of 0-7.

The Red Storm took advantage of the tired Academy of Art University team. After scoring in the first five minutes of play, they tacked on two more goals during the first half. Even after the Urban Knights regrouped and changed goal keepers for the second half, the Red Storm did not slow down for a second. They managed to score four more goals for themselves, all while keeping the Urban Knights scoreless. With a 7-0 lead, the Red Storm out shot the Urban Knights 36-9. Dixie State also had six corner kicks in the game, while Academy of Art University had none. Even though the Urban Knights' goal keepers had several saves during the match, the Red Storm offense was too overpowering and never let up.

Freshman Carmela Doerr had three shots on goal for the Urban Knights during the game. Solveig Barnes stepped out of the goal keeping role for the second half and had one shot on goal on the day. Morgan LeFever managed two shots in the game, while Jessica Madrid, Miriam Tolentino, and Christina Powell each had one shot on the day.

First half goal keeper, Solveig Barnes allowed three goals and posted ten saves for the Urban Knights; while Melissa Co came in to goal tend in the second half. Co gave up four goals and had nine saves in the game.

For the Red Strom, Mikala Wilkes had a tremendous day. Wilkes had six shots, including five on goal and four goals in the game. Shannon Larsen had seven shots, six that were on goal and one goal in the game, and Robyn Wall and Camille Peterson both had four shots, including three shots on goal and one goal in the game. Goal keeper Tonya Smith got the win for her team and had one save, while Abby Monroe came in during the second half and had three saves on the day.

With the loss the Academy of Art University's record falls to 0-8-2 overall and 0-3-2 in conference; while Dixie State's record improves to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in conference. The Urban Knights get a much needed seven days rest before playing again on October 6th. They are scheduled to take on Hawaii Pacific University at 1:00pm at Kezar Stadium.
