San Francisco, CA -- This past Thursday, the Academy of Art University women's tennis team served up a community engagement event supporting the San Francisco Tennis Club. Sophomore
Laone "Lala" Botshoma, freshman
Maria "Belen" Tenorio, and freshman
Cecilia Hedin teamed with head coach Dave Allen to play on the indoor courts with a large crowd of fans.
"We just want to continue to say our thanks to San Francisco Tennis Club for their continued support and we're glad to show our skill," Coach Allen said. "The Urban Knights help put on a great show, generating some good buzz for the 2010 season."
As a kick-off for the Bay Area Grand Prix, the Knights competed in front of all 320 player/participants on Friday at the Marin Tennis Club. Coach Allen took center stage later that night in a match against "Former #1 in the World (in the over-35 division)" Jeff Greenwald. The two battled to a third-set tiebreaker.
"It was a thrill to get out there and compete albeit it's been a while," Coach Allen said. "My game seems to still be fairly sharp probably because of all the hitting I've been doing with the girls. Now, as if it couldn't get any better, this event was held outside of San Francisco. The word is definitely out and we won't stop there."
