Ellensburg, WA – The Academy of Art University (3-3) was unable to hold off Central Washington (1-4) as the Wildcats won their home opener, 87-55. The Urban Knights leading scorer,
Sondra Stilwell, once again led the team with 15 points as she has proved all season to be an offensive force.
The senior guard, who is averaging 13.5 points per game, knocked down 7-16 shots from the floor and distributed four assists in her 35 minutes on the floor.
Central Washington jumped out to an early lead which the Urban Knights were unable to overcome. Down 41-23 at the half, AAU was able to cut the Wildcats lead to 14 two different times, but they were hurt by turnovers. The Wildcats were able to capitalize on AAU's mistakes as they recorded 28 points off turnovers.
For the fifth time in six games, junior forward Jessica Nolan was the team's leading rebounder bringing down six in the game. Sophomore guard Lorraine Etchell had another good game notching 13 points, including knocking down all four free throws, and grabbing two rebounds against Central Washington.
The Urban Knights were unable to stop Wildcat Jenn Jacobs who finished the game with 26 points. Jacobs hit 6-7 shots from behind the arc which proved to be too much for AAU to handle. Wildcat Sara Bergner also had a good game adding 15 points, handing out four assists, and two rebounds.
While still on the road, AAU comes closer to home when they take on Holy Names University in Oakland, Calif. The game will be played in Tobin Gymnasium on December 11th at 6:00 PM.
