OPENING TIP:
Academy of Art University will take on cross town CCAA opponent for a Battle of the Bay. The SFSU gators (6-2) lost their last match by two points to Chico State University, who is always a solid team in the CCAA. The Urban Knights (1-10) are coming off a disappointing showing at Humboldt State, Dec. 20. The Knights were held to just 10-59 shooting from the field and 3-16 from beyond the arc on the night.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Following the AAU vs SFSU match-up, the Urban Knights will travel to Denver, Colorado where they will two solid RMAC opponents, on Jan. 2 at 7:00 pm they will face Regis University (5-6) and on Jan.3 at 2:00 pm they will play Metro State College (4-6). Both teams prove to be a exciting challenge for the AAU women's basketball program.
SCOUTING THE GATORS:
The San Francisco State Gators are gaining momentum and have proved to be a force for most teams to reckon with, based on their 6-2 record, which is quite a turnaround from their start last season as they were 3-5 at this time last year. The Gators have not played since their Dec. 12 ,52-36, victory over the visiting Central Washington Wildcats, a team which turned around and the next day defeated the Urban Knights 66-59. Led by Senior guard Desiree Butler who averages about 29 mpg and 8.1 ppg, the Gators also have Junior forward ZaLisha Oliver who also averages 8.1 ppg and 4.6 rpg, while Senior forward Krystle Mays chips in with 6.8ppg and 5.6 rpg.
LAST GAME RECAP:
Humboldt State University (6-3) of the CCAA was Academy of Art University's (1-10) most recent opponent and the game was all Jacks from the start. The Academy of Art University women's basketball team was held to 10 of 59 shooting and was out rebounded 30-62, as the Lumberjacks cruised to a 90-38 victory.
Sondra Stilwell scored 11 points to pace AAU, and
Arika Navy added seven points off the bench.
Levalasi Key led the Urban Knights with six rebounds.
