SMSU Spring Invitational (Final)
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Maintaining their second place ranking throughout the final round of the SMSU Spring Invite, Academy of Art women's golf concluded the tournament besting 10 other teams with their 22-over-par 598 while numerous Urban Knights finished within the top 10 golfers.
"We did our best with tricky conditions today and GVSU played really well," said ART U Head Coach
Beth Allen. "I'm still proud of everyone and I'm so excited for next week! We'll keep knocking on the door!"
With three of ART U's contributed team scores on the day finalizing as a 4-over-par 76, the pair of freshman Isabella Christy and freshman Jannel Calixterio led the team in seventh place overall. The duo finished with a 4-over-par 148 each with the latter's 3-over-par 75 the best on the squad in the second round. Freshman Meri Illamola closed her tournament out with a 13th place finish, while junior Nicole Yang ended off in 21st place with an 11-over-par 155. Sophomore Chantel Tsai also came in for the squad with a 14-over-par 158.
No. 6 Grand Valley State led the tournament overall with a 1-over-par 577 through two rounds, being the only team ahead of the Knights. Olivia Stoll of GVSU built a bigger lead in the second round, finishing with a 3-under-par 141, three strokes ahead of Evelyn Park of Grand Valley State and Orraya Jan Tipasathien of Montana State Billings.
ART U will compete early next week once again at The Patriot Invitational at Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, Calif.
