LA Spring Kickoff (Final)

DOWNEY, Calif. – Starting 2025 off with an impressive performance at the LA Spring Kickoff down in Southern California, Academy of Art women's golf concluded the second day of action with an overall fourth place finish while two members of the squad tied for an individual 10th place ranking. 

Sharing the team-lead over the course of the tournament out of 86 golfers were freshman Jannel Calixterio and freshman Isabella Christy tying for that 10th place spot, who each totaled a 7-over-par 149 in their own way, as both shot at least one round of 1-over-par 72 or better over the two days. Junior Nicole Yang came out middle-of-the-pack on the Urban Knights and 15th overall with her 8-over-par 150 just a stroke back of the leaders, as sophomore Chantel Tsai and freshman Meri Illamola shared the next spot on the team and 27th place with an 11-over-par 153 apiece. 

Finishing in fourth place as a unit with a 30-over-par 598, ART U finished nine strokes again of No. 42 Cal State East Bay, while they saw No. 7 Cal State San Marcos, Cal State Los Angeles, and Sonoma State just ahead of them. While the Knights beat 12 teams total, they finished ahead of all six Pacific West Conference rivals. Tilda Kvarnrud from Cal State Monterey Bay came away with the individual title, and Calixterio and Christy tied with the No. 42 and No. 128 golfers in NCAA Division II, while finishing four strokes ahead of No. 83.

ART U will have a three week break before they get to stay local and compete in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on Feb. 24 at Corica Park Golf Course.
