ART U Third At LA Spring Kickoff, Calixterio Leads Pack

LA Spring Kickoff (Day 1)

DOWNEY, Calif. –
Starting the spring 2025 season off strong, Academy of Art women's golf concluded the first round of action at Rio Hondo Golf Club with a third place ranking as a unit out of the 16-team field, totaling a 15-over-par 299 through the first set of 18 holes.

Turning in the best round for the team on the first day was freshman Jannel Calixterio, as her even-par 71 bested the lowest round of her collegiate career thus far by five strokes to place herself in second place overall out of the field of 85 individuals. Junior Nicole Yang was next up for the Urban Knights with her 4-over-par 75 to rank in 17th place, while sophomore Chantel Tsai (5-over-par 76) and freshman Isabella Christy (6-over-par 77) are both within two strokes to contribute to the team score. Rounding out the squad was freshman Meri Illamola right behind with a 7-over-par 78.

With ART U in third place, No. 7 Cal State San Marcos leads the tournament after the first day with an overall team score of 6-over-par 290, just three strokes ahead of second-place No. 29 Cal State Los Angeles, who are looking to defend their home course. The Knights will head into the second round sandwiched between ranked teams, as they're currently one stroke ahead of No. 42 Cal State East Bay.

The LA Spring Kickoff concludes Tuesday as the Knights are ready to take on the final round of play tomorrow morning.
