ART U And DU Go The Distance, Pengs Squeak Out 4-3 Win

LIVERMORE. Calif. – In the third match of the 2025 campaign, No. 22 Academy of art women's tennis squared up against their Bay Area rival in Dominican on Monday morning, where the Penguins eked out a 4-3 victory.

In doubles, ART U saw themselves down after the first matchup, as Sofia Acuna and Deepa Vanaraja created a 6-1 result on Court 2 over sophomore Estelle Najean and senior Paulina Alvarez. Sophomore Georgiana Parr and freshman Georgieva Stefani responded shortly after on Court 3, taking down Maria Gavrilov and Astrid Craig 6-2 to tie it up with all eyes on Court 1 now to win the doubles point for their teams. Although sophomore Amelija Supulniece and junior Jessica Plazas were battling with the No. 10 doubles team in the region in Gina Dudley and Audrey Rafols, the Knights took the match after a close 7-5 result to be up 1-0 headed into singles play.

Three straight singles points came for DU on Courts 3, 5, and 1 to be just a point away from clinching the match, but a feisty 7-5, 6-1 win for Parr on Court 6 and a 6-2, 6-1 takedown of Gina Dudley from No. 43 Plazas had the rest of the sides watching Court 4 to secure a victory. In the end, it was Vanaraja of Dominican who took the match 6-4, 6-2 to win the day for the Penguins with a 4-3 final score.

ART U will next take on some NCAA Division I talent in Nevada this Thursday, Feb. 20 with a 9 a.m. first serve back in Livermore.
