ART U Finds Strong Chances Late But Stanislaus Holds On

SAN FRANCISCO – Although Academy of Art men's soccer outshot Stanislaus State in their match at SF Glens at Treasure Island Field on Wednesday morning, the Warriors capitalized on vital chances to earn the 2-0 triumph for their squad.

Striking seven shots in the first half compared to the Warriors' five, the Urban Knights, now 1-3-1 overall, found two early opportunities at a score in the first nine minutes, with sophomore midfielder Xander Cleaves getting one on target near the bottom left corner, but Angel Ruiz-Hernandez was there to record the save for Stanislaus State, now 4-1-1 overall. Soon after, Alecxander Cuellar of the Warriors put his team up after his goal at the start of the 19th minute. Sophomore forward Fabrizio Garrido and junior forward Adrian Lechuga would combine for three shots later in the opening frame with two on target but neither would find their way past the goalkeeper.

In the second half, ART U gained some momentum with multiple good looks at net by freshman midfielder Keita Goto and Garrido just minutes apart, but the Warriors' man in net would make two immaculate saves which helped create a counterattack, which led to an eventual insurance goal by Kenneth Solares after it was sent in by Jacob Ramirez.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Florian Grollmann managed to make great saves of his own with three total throughout the duration of the match, but the two scores for Stanislaus State were enough to secure the win.

A three-match Hawaii trip is next on the agenda for the Knights, with UH Hilo starting it off for ART U on Oct. 1 with a 12:30 HT p.m. (3:30 p.m. PST) first kick.
