HILO, HAWAII – Attempting to create a late comeback against UH Hilo, Academy of Art men's soccer saw a score come from sophomore midfielder
Joey Glaab in the 79th minute in his first match back out on the pitch this season, but the Vulcans held strong for the last 10 minutes and fended off the Urban Knights for the eventual 2-1 victory.
UH Hilo took the lead in the first half after a Kanata Taira score in the 37th minute, as they got one to go off their sixth shot of the frame. The score was created from a Brian Trujillo steal at the midfield and a through ball through the Knight defense where Taira collected the ball and bent it around the right side of the keeper from the edge of the box. The 1-0 score was enough to hold possession of the lead going into halftime.
Shortly into the second frame, UHH extended their lead to 2-0 after Felix Drizinsky crossed the ball in from the right side of the box into Gabriel Gallardo who went near post with his header which went off the crossbar and in. ART U then responded with a Glaab score in the 79th after a deflection off the goalkeeper, as well as Glaab taking another shot in the 84th minute which would fall just off target.
UH Hilo, now 6-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play, took the victory in ART U's first Pacific West Conference match of the season as they managed to sneak away from the Knights who sit at 1-4-1 on the year and 0-1-0 in PacWest action.
ART U will return to the field this Friday, Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. HT (1:00 p.m. PST) where they'll take on Chaminade at Saint Louis Field.
