KNIGHT WATCH
Thus far in the early season, Academy of Art has already seen their first tie in 48 matches dating back to 2021, as the Knights held their ground against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sept. 5. Graduate student goalkeeper
Nicole Peoples put the team on her back, recording nine saves in the process to keep the score set as a scoreless draw. Most recently against UC Merced on
Sept. 10, the Knights fell for the first time this campaign with a 4-0 final score to set their record at 0-1-1.
On the offensive side, the leader in shots early into the season is sophomore defender/forward Jade Alverio, as she has already struck at the net on five occasions, with four of those being on target. Junior forward Danielle Medellin has two shots of her own through the first two matches, while sophomore forward/midfielder Alanna Del Carlo, freshman midfielder Zeena Grewal, and sophomore midfielder Ashley Tasev all have recorded one each.
Between the posts, Peoples, the Pacific West Conference Defender of the Week, has both starts for the squad with 17 saves in that timeframe, the most in the PacWest.
HONING IN ON HUMBOLDT
A team that was nationally ranked just a season ago, the Lumberjacks began their season with an 0-2 record after matchups with Azusa Pacific and Seattle Pacific in the Humboldt Kickoff Classic. Outscored 7-1 as of Thursday morning, the lone goal of the season thus far for Cal Poly Humboldt comes from Frida Duran Arellano, as she slotted one in against APU off an Emilie Wallin assist in their home opener. With Duran Arellano holding half of the teams total shots against APU (2), Nicole Beauchemin and Payton Heaney have struck the others.Â
Carson Thomson-Terri will be the starter in net, as she has already racked up five saves in her match with the Cougars.
