SMSU Spring Invitational (Final Results)

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Academy of Art women's golf was able to improve upon its first round score in the closing round of the SMSU Spring Invitational on Tuesday, posting a lower round score than the day before to help them end the tournament in fourth place at 48-over-par 624. 

Standing out for the Urban Knights was freshman Chantel Tsai, who finished the tournament within the top 10 on the individual leaderboard and was the top ART U finisher in a share of eighth place at 8-over-par 152, shooting an identical 4-over-par 76 both rounds of the competition. Following that were both sophomore Nicole Yang and senior Napat "Plern" Rattanaprakarn who were just one stroke behind Tsai as they both shot a 9-over-par 153, tied for 13th place. Senior Valeria Ruiz was next up for ART U as she qualified to contribute to the team score with her 23-over-par 167, while senior Tessa Geenen followed with a 24-over-par 168.

The best team scores by tournament's end were from both Missouri Western State and Western New Mexico, as both finished with a 23-over-par 599. MWSU caught up on the second day by shooting a 6-over-par while WNMU shot a 13-over-par and the pair finished with a tie. Also with identical scores in individual play were Cassidy Phelan of Colorado Mesa and Brooklyn Maes of WNMU, as they both concluded the tournament with a 3-over-par 147.

Academy of Art now turns its attention to the Patriot Invitational which will begin on Monday, Mar. 18 from Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif.
