Women's Golf Starts Spring Season At Tim Tierney Shootout

ALAMEDA, Calif. –
 Teeing off for the first time in the 2024 calendar year at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout from Corica Park Golf Course, Academy of Art women's golf saw a pack of four Urban Knights near each other in the individual rankings all within three strokes of one other as the team finished the first day of action off with a 37-over-par 325.

Turning in the best round for the team on the first day was graduate student Jae Eun Park, as her 8-over-par 80 was the lowest ART U score contributed to the overall team ranking. Sophomore Nicole Yang and freshman Chantel Tsai shot an identical day, both midway through the tournament with a 9-over-par 81, just one shot behind Park. Senior Valeria Cruz is within striking distance of the pair, with an 11-over-par 83. Senior Napat "Plern" Rattanaprakarn currently sits with a 17-over-par 89. Senior Tessa Geenen entered the tournament as an individual, and is currently tied for 19th place with a 4-over-par 76.

Cal State Los Angeles leads the tournament after the first day, with an overall team score of 4-over-par 292, seven strokes ahead of second-place Sonoma State. CSULA also contains the leader in the player rankings, with Morgan Sjoerdsma recording a 4-under-par 68. 

The Tim Tierney Shootout concludes tomorrow, with the Knights ready to take on the final round of play at 8 a.m.
