Academy of Art Drops Narrow 1-0 Defeat To Silverswords

HONOLULU – Keeping Chaminade off the scoreboard for just over 70 minutes in their match on Friday, Academy of Art women's soccer dropped a narrow 1-0 deficit to the Silverswords. 

In the first half, Madelynne Knowd took the opening shot of the match in the 13th minute which fell off target, and junior forward Danielle Medellin responded in the 19th minute with one on net, but Izabella Holly was there to make the save for the Silverswords in net. Graduate student goalkeeper Nicole Peoples held strong in net for the next six shots from CUH, as she collected two saves in the process in the final minutes of the first frame. The match then entered the break with a scoreless half.

Chaminade kept firing towards the ART U net as they let off 15 in the second half, and the first 10 would go unsuccessful. The 'Swords finally got one through Peoples in the 74th minute, as Bryana Yoshida buried one off a pass from Savannah Breeze Miranda. CUH would shoot on four more occasions to try and extend their lead for insurance, but all would fall off the target.

Despite dropping the close match, Peoples racked up six saves defending between the sticks to hold second place in the Pacific West Conference rankings in saves per game (7.67).

ART U will be back at it once more on the road trip as they'll take on Hawaii Pacific in two days on Sunday, Oct. 6 with a 3 p.m. HT (6 p.m. PST) kickoff.
