DOWN THE FINAL STRETCH

With just four matches remaining in the 2024 regular season, Academy of Art men's soccer returns to action this Wednesday as the Urban Knights travel for their last away contest of the campaign against Jessup before returning home to take on Westmont and Azusa Pacific.

KICKOFF
The Urban Knights will do battle with the Warriors of Jessup in a 2 p.m. afternoon matinee on Wednesday, while ART U commences its contests on Saturday and Monday against the Warriors of Westmont and the Cougars at 11 a.m. Remember to follow @ARTU_Knights via the athletics app (Apple App Store, Google Play Store) and on Twitter & Instagram, as well as "Like" the Urban Knights on Facebook for score updates, videos, and recaps.

Audie Garza & Keita GotoKNIGHT WATCH
Generating a higher level of offense recently in the squad's last three matches has been ART U, as their six goals in the timeframe is the most of any three-match span this season. With the Urban Knights' 4-2 victory over Cal Maritime on Oct. 26, ART U saw their season-high in goals scored and saw the second-most assists in a game (5), the fifth-most team points (13), and seventh-most goals (4) in ART U program history.

With now 10 different members of ART U earning at least one point, junior forward Kristian Lonvig leads the table with seven after seeing a score and assist this past week. Sophomore midfielder Joey Glaab looks to be back in full form, as he has jumped up to second on ART U in points after netting two scores against the Keelhaulers while co-leading the team in shots (16) with freshman midfielder Keita Goto, third in points on the squad. To go along with the Knights' recent success, sophomore midfielder Heath Nager and senior defender Chris Stokes have joined the crew as they each scored their first goals of the season this past week as well.

Being the only member of ART U to play in every minute thus far in 2024, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Florian Grollmann has been seen making 51 saves throughout the year on 163 shots faced, and ranks among the top-five in saves per game with his 3.92 average.

JUST STOP JESSUP
With three matches left of their campaign and records of 2-8-4 overall and 2-5-1 in PacWest, the Warriors are coming off two losses both on the road, with their most recent contest against Dominican ending with a 4-0 final in the Penguins' favor. Before the trips, Jessup defended their home field in their last match at Warrior Soccer Field, finishing with a 4-0 score, this time with the triumph over Westmont. As eight different members of the squad have earned a point, Jalen Scott leads his team with seven, knocking in three goals with an assist in 2024. While Scott leads the offense with his 32 shots, which is double the next most, Max Willard has hung back in net as he has given up 17 scores this year, an average of 1.32 per match. The contest will be the fifth occasion the two teams have met, with an all-time series record set at 2-2.

WHAT'S UP WARRIORS
With success more recently, Westmont has gone 3-1-1 in their last five matches, dropping just the previously mentioned 4-0 result to Jessup as they're 7-4-4 this season overall and 4-3-1 in conference matches. While Westmont ranks in the top four teams in the conference in each offensive category, Erik Guerrero leads the pack with 15 points, as he is also tied for the lead in goals scored in the PacWest with seven total. Over double-digit points as well on the team is Connor Lynch, as his 11 puts him in second on the squad as he has netted three scores with five assists. Brady Highfill will be guarding the posts for the Warriors as he has put together a 1.60 goal against average, saving 47 shots while giving up 23 scores. In the all-time series, Westmont is up a narrow 1-0 as the upcoming contest will be just the second between the squads.

ON AND OFF AZUSA
Azusa Pacific enters the battle with ART U flip-flopping their last six matches between wins, ties, and losses, going 2-2-2 in the timeframe which adds into their 4-7-2 overall and 3-3-2 conference record. The Cougars, who will battle with Menlo prior to their match with the Knights, currently see Gabriel Oropeza ahead the team in points with his 11, as offensive help comes from all angles as 12 other members have earned at least one point. Allowing 21 goals has been Alexis Rodriguez in net, as his 1.63 goals against average has seen him save 55 shots with a .724 save percentage over the course of the season, seeing almost just as many shots faced as Grollmann of ART U (158-163). With a larger history compared to the other two opponents, APU has a 8-2-1 record all-time against the Knights.

ART U STRIKES FIRST AGAINST MENLO, BUT OAKS TAKE IT 2-1
In the final match of their homestand on Oct. 26, Academy of Art men's soccer came out of their contest with Menlo seeing the latter find victory as the Oaks finished off a comeback win with a 2-1 final score at SF Glens at Treasure Island Field on Saturday.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Urban Knights will close out their 2024 regular season with a Senior Day ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 9 at CCSF Soccer Field before they'll compete with Point Loma at noon.
