HILO, Hawaii – Batting in their first Pacific West Conference match of the 2024 season, Academy of Art took on No. 25 UH Hilo where the Vulcans would come out with the 3-0 triumph on Tuesday.
Scoring first in the 10th minute of the match was UHH, as Savina Zamborini put the Vulcans ahead after receiving an over-the-top pass from Filippa Graneld at the end of a one minute stretch that saw the ball hit the goal frame twice. The score would remain until halftime, and UH Hilo would enter the break with just a one-goal lead.
Further building upon their lead in the second frame were the Vulcans, as they saw an unassisted score come from Diana Garcia in the 48th minute just after halftime, as well as a score by Teani Arakawa off a double assist by Graneld and Jazlynn Ellis just minutes later.
Freshman defender Mia Gonzalez recorded her sixth-straight full match played, making her the only member on ART U who has seen the field for all 540 minutes. Graduate student goalkeeper
Nicole Peoples was back out on the pitch, and she returned with a six-save performance for ART U.
Academy of Art will be back at it this Friday, Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. HT (1:00 p.m. PST) where they'll take on Chaminade at Saint Louis Field.
