Men's Hoops Stunt Chaminade Shooting, Win Fourth Straight

HONOLULU – Saturday's Pacific West Conference showdown with Chaminade was an impressive all-around performance by Academy of Art men's basketball, as ART U used a season-high in points and multiple double-double performances to produce a 67-58 victory over CUH.

"This afternoon, we had a great defensive performance," said Head Coach Scott Waterman. "Chaminade is an explosive scoring team and to hold them to 30 percent from the field and 21 percent from the three-point line says a lot about how we defended. After our game Thursday, I told our team we will have even stronger performances ahead, and we took another step. Now we will rest up and get ready for the final game of the trip on Monday against a very good Hilo squad."

The Urban Knights, who improved to 10-5 overall and 6-2 in conference and maintained their third-place standing, went back-and-forth with Chaminade, now 6-12 overall and 2-8 in conference, throughout the beginning frame. After the contest being just a two-point game with just over seven minutes to go in the first half, ART U created a 10-point lead by halftime with scoring from four different Knights as the Silverswords shot 1-for-8 from the field in that time. ART U entered the break up 30-20, with Chaminade's points being the second-fewest given up in the first half this season.

Latrell WilliamsIn the second half, ART U started off hot like they have been all season, immediately building upon their lead and raising it up to as many as 21 points while using a 10-0 run. Hot shooting throughout the second frame from junior guard Rodney Munson saw him knock down five triples by the game's conclusion, tied for the second most in ART U history. Down the final stretch, the 'Swords' 30.6 percent shooting quickly turned around as they got the contest within nine points, but the Knights' insurance was enough to keep the lead and bring home the season sweep against Chaminade with a 67-58 final score.

Munson would finish with a new season-high in points (20) while dishing off five assists, bringing in five rebounds, and collecting three steals. Junior forward Jamal Fuller collected a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) while senior forward Latrell Williams found his 20th double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) of his ART U career. Junior forward Isaiah Williams scored double-digit points (10) while grabbing seven rebounds, and junior forward Quintin Metcalf secured the most boards he has this season (8).

Ross Reeves of Chaminade did all he could for his squad, putting up 20 points as Isaac Amaral-Artharee added on 12 of his own with Scott Ator and Wyatt Lowell putting up eight rebounds apiece.

The Knights will finish off their Hawaii trip as they take on UH Hilo on Monday, Jan. 15 with a 7 p.m. HT tip-time (9 p.m. PT).
