ART U STAYS ON THE ROAD
Academy of Art will continue the road trip as they come back from a six-day hiatus with no gameplay and are set to clash with Cal State Monterey Bay and Jessup for two non-conference matchups.

KICKOFF
ART U will kickoff against Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. as well as the following Tuesday, Sept. 12 in Rocklin against Jessup. Remember to follow @ARTU_Knights via the athletics app (Apple App Store, Google Play Store) and on Twitter & Instagram, as well as "Like" the Urban Knights on Facebook for score updates, videos, and recaps.

Women's SoccerKNIGHT WATCH
Redshirt junior defender Katie Williams is looking to add to her point total as she leads the Urban Knights while ranking fifth in the Pacific West Conference rankings and has already struck a goal and assisted against Warriors this season. Williams is one of four Knights who have played in every minute so far on the year as she leads the backfield as a defensive captain. Freshman midfielders Kara Aradóttir and Ashley Tasev each recorded their first collegiate scores last week and look to keep making impacts as brand new underclassmen.

Freshman goalkeeper Kayla Hampton has stood out in goal for ART U this season and already ranks first in the PacWest rankings in total saves with 17 sitting at an 8.5 average per game. A familiar record for ART U goalies, teammate and sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Calderon ranked first in the same category just last year, and Hampton seems to be on track with nearly double the amount of saves over second place. The Duvall, Wash. native is another Knight who has played in all 180 minutes thus far.

BATTLE OF THE BAYS
The Otters come into their match with the Urban Knights looking for their first win at 0-1-1. CSUMB opened their 2023 with a 1-0 loss against Azusa Pacific, leaving them scoreless. In their most recent match, the Otters tied Biola by a score of 1-1. Tannin Klunis is the lone goal-scorer and currently sits at the top of the table with two points. Hennessy Silva sits right below with her one assist that came with the Klunis goal and Amelia McManus heats up the offense with three shots of her own. Jessica Zavala holds the most minutes in goal for the Otters with 135 and has so far recorded a .750 save percentage to go along with her six saves.

WELCOME BACK, WARRIORS
The Warriors are 1-4-1 which includes a 3-2 loss to the Urban Knights in San Francisco on Aug. 31. Jessup recorded their lone victory at home last Saturday against Warner Pacific in a narrow 2-1 win. Their goal differential currently sits at 7-20 giving up 16 of those goals in their three other losses not against ART U. Kaylee Gillespie is the focal point of the Warrior offense, already striking the ball at goal 37 times with 17 on target through six games played. She currently sits as the point leader for the Warriors with seven including her three goals. The Jessup goalkeeping-duo of Lilliana Fenn and Madeline Jern currently split time almost evenly with 27 collective saves and a similar save percentage around .574.

HAMPTON RECORDS DOUBLE-DIGIT SAVES IN NARROW LOSS
On Sept. 2 out at Bobcat Field, Academy of Art women's soccer hung tough against UC Merced, but a scoreless tie was broken up by a Bobcats goal in the 32nd minute and that 1-0 score would preserve through a match highlighted by many defensive stops.

LOOKING AHEAD
These two non-conference matchups will lead Academy of Art into their final away match before PacWest play, traveling to Cal Poly Humboldt on Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. at College Creek Field in Arcata, Calif.
