#24 Cal Poly Humboldt Prevails Despite Peoples' 18 Saves

ARCATA, Calif. -- Academy of Art women's soccer couldn't answer No. 24 Cal Poly Humboldt's scores as the Urban Knights dropped a 4-0 decision at College Creek Field on Saturday in ART U's penultimate non-conference match before Pacific West Conference play.

Graduate student goalkeeper Nicole Peoples recorded 18 saves, the most by an Academy of Art goalkeeper since Rachael Rempe set the program record with 19 on Oct. 16, 2012. The performance helped put Peoples first in the PacWest Conference rankings in saves per game (9.0) and tied the record for a half set by sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Calderon who posted 11 in the second period on Oct. 27, 2022 versus Fresno Pacific.

The Lumberjacks came ready offensively as they started the match off aggressively with seven shots within the first 10 minutes of play. The home team's first score came in the 11th minute off a penalty kick and the Urban Knights could not recover as Cal Poly Humboldt eventually tacked on three more thereafter.

Redshirt junior forward Hannah Moore was given the opportunity to tie the match up in the 17th minute, but her shot went just wide right of the post.

After the loss, Academy of Art's record stands at 1-4-0 overall thus far through non-conference action while Cal Poly Humboldt moves to 5-0-1. The Urban Knights will look towards hosting Dominican next Tuesday in non-conference play on Lymphoma Awareness Day at Paul Goode Field with a kickoff set for 1 p.m.
