KNIGHT WATCH
While being the team's season leader in points for the squad (3), redshirt junior defender Katie Williams was half of the offensive pressure for the Knights in their recent match against Azusa Pacific. Williams got a shot off that was on target in the 72nd minute that was saved by the Cougars' goalkeeper. The Knights' other attempt came from sophomore forward Danielle Medellin with a shot also on target, but was inevitably saved. Medellin is now ranked among the leaders on ART U in points (tied for second) with her two points on the year.
The Knights have had a trio of goalkeepers throughout the season, with each graduate student goalkeeper Nicole Peoples, sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Calderon, and freshman goalkeeper Kayla Hampton being involved in multiple games within the 2023 season. Hampton has seen the most time, starting seven matches and collecting 48 saves on 134 shots faced (.658 save percentage) with a 3.85 goals against average in 585 minutes played.
SILENCING THE SUNBIRDS
Fresno Pacific comes into their game against ART U with an overall record of 1-9-1, and a conference record of 0-3-1. Maria Eir Magnusdottir has started every game for the Sunbirds this year and is their points leader through 11 matches (4), along with recording the most shots (34), and has more than double the amount of shots on goal (17) compared to the rest of her team. Monique Nevarez has been in goal for the majority of the Sunbirds' season, as she's recorded 62 saves on 145 shots faced (.765 save percentage) while giving up 2.17 goals per contest. Fresno Pacific holds the all-time lead between the two schools with a 12-1-1 record.
OVERCOMING THE OAKLANDERS
Lincoln comes into their match with ART U with an 0-6-0 record, scoring just one goal all season in a match against Bethesda where the Oaklanders lost 4-1. Lincoln's most recent match was against UC Santa Cruz, where they fell 8-0, getting six shots on goal but getting none to go. Sharyn Enriquez has been in goal every match this season for Lincoln, and racked up nine saves in her 90 minutes of play against UCSC. Lincoln will play Pacific Union before matching up against ART U next week.
WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN TOUGH BATTLE TO APU
A tough match for the Urban Knights, the Oct. 9 game between Academy of Art women's soccer and Azusa Pacific went in the Cougars' favor after the home team tallied seven goals at Cougar Soccer Complex with a final score of 7-0.
